The Finding

In three months, LinkedIn moved from 11th to 5th in ChatGPT citations.

Between November 2025 and February 2026, LinkedIn underwent the largest single-domain authority shift observed across AI search during 2026, according to Profound's analysis of 1.4 million citations.

SEMrush's parallel study of 325,000 unique prompts confirmed the pattern. Across ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode, and Perplexity, LinkedIn ranks second only to Reddit, ahead of Wikipedia, YouTube, and every major news publisher.

For professional queries specifically, Profound's data found LinkedIn ranks first across all six major AI platforms measured. The implication this report draws from these studies: LinkedIn long-form articles and newsletters now function as Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) assets that AI models cite when answering business and professional questions.

Profile page citations dropped from 33.9% to 14.5% in three months. Articles and newsletters grew correspondingly. AI systems are favoring authored, substantive content over static identity pages, with active publishing now the deciding signal.

What this report is

A synthesis of published research, not original first-party data.

What you'll get

A clear, organized synthesis of the most rigorous public studies on AI citation behavior, plus practical strategic frameworks drawn from those findings. The goal is to save you the dozens of hours of reading required to make sense of fragmented research from Profound, SEMrush, SE Ranking, ConvertMate, Yext, Search Engine Land, and others.

What it isn't

This isn't original empirical research. The citation data, methodologies, and underlying numbers come from the third-party sources cited throughout. Some of those sources rely on proprietary datasets that have not been independently replicated. Where studies disagree or qualify their findings, the report flags it.
